Dem-Master were appointed by Kier Construction to carry out the Phase 2 Asbestos Removal and Demolition of Alness Academy.

We carried out Phase 1 under a previous contract which consisted of the Sports Pavillion, Garage and Janitor’s House, allowing our Client to construct the new build facility.

The site was located within a mainly residential area in the town Alness with the former school complex situated off the B817, which is a busy thoroughfare for the Town for both road users and pedestrians. There were residential properties in close proximity to the North of the site with the new build school located in the former playfields and open ground immediately to the east of the former High School.

The extensive and complex Asbestos Removal phase involved the licensed removal process covered high priority ACMs from virtually all of the structural elements of the affected buildings. The follow on structural Demolition involved the superstructures followed by the Slabs and Foundation removal, onsite Crushing of all inert demolition debris, backfilling and grading the site to the existing surrounding levels.

Early communication was crucial here to achieve the co-ordination of the asbestos removal works for the critical release of the various buildings for the follow-on structural demolition works and programme.
