Glenburn Primary School, Prestwick
Dem-Master were appointed to carry out the phased demolition of Glenburn Primary School, Prestwick.
Scope of works:

Phase 1 consisted of the demolition of the Northern section of the school building which contained a former teaching block.
This section of the building was adjoined to structures which were to be retained and would remain live. To allow the careful separation, the team carried out the hand separation works working from a MEWP, using a combination of percussive (Hilti TE1000 Demolition Hammer / Breaker & Reciprocating Saw) and non-percussive handheld tools (sledgehammer, pinch bars). The section of roof and masonry walls of the building were removed in piecemeal fashion by trained and competent operatives, wearing full PPE (safety helmets, safety footwear, high visibility vests, gloves and light eye protection at all times. ‘Face-fitted’ dust masks (FPP3 minimum), ear defenders and high impact goggles were worn during breaking operations. The roof section was stripped and removed by trained and competent operatives working from the MEWP, using sledgehammer and pinch bars and where required a 110V reciprocating saw. The walls were deconstructed from the external faces (inwards) by operatives working from within the confines of a scaffold tower. Following the separation, our plant operators carried out the demolition of the remainder of the Northern section using Standard Reach demolition excavators with hydraulic attachments.
Once we demobilised, our Client then was then able to begin the construction of the new school and nursery campus. Following the successful completion of the new build facility, Dem-Master remobilised to the site to commence Phase 2 of the project which consisted of the demolition of the remaining sections of the former primary school. The demolition sequence was agreed with the client to ensure minimal disruption to the new, neighbouring, and occupied primary school. The demolition works were carried out using our standard reach demolition excavators in the sequence as noted below which was included in our Method Statement.
