Halls Factory, Broxburn
The site comprised of the extensive 18.7 acre site with the series of interconnecting large industrial steel framed buildings.
This factory was formed of extensions and extensive outbuildings at an approximate gross volume of 220,000 m3.
Dem-Master were appointed to undertake the initial asbestos survey to determine the location and condition of all asbestos containing materials. Following the survey, Dem-Master designed enclosures to encapsulate the substances; allowing safe removal of all notifiable asbestos.
During asbestos removal, the Dem-master engineering team attended site to undertake a dilapidation survey of the remaining buildings and plant allowing us to develop the methodology and sequence of Demolition and safe systems of work procedures.
Project Constraints and Solutions
Our client's commitment to protecting the environment and lowering its carbon emissions put the onus on and set a recycling rate target of 98%.
To achieve our target, we reused residual FFE, temporary buildings, steel framed sheds and the estimated 60,000 tonnes of crushed 6F2 materials produced from the site's hard standings and roads later in the project.
Dem-master were appointed for this large former factory Demolition following a competitive tendering process.
